An innovative approach to the development of language that integrates the affect-based model of human development developed by Stanley I. Greenspan, MD (the "Floortime Model"), with the development of receptive and expressive language, imitation, pragmatics, and engagement. The curriculum incorporates the principles of systematic Instruction and applied Floortime as the primary teaching strategies. It also includes supplemental oral motor and augmentative communication techniques that support the development of language. The Second Edition includes updated an revised chapters as well as new sections on ABLC in the classroom, support groups, and foundation activities with expanded elicitation for every skill from the checklists. Stanley I. Greenspan, MD, clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at George Washington University Medical School and Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders, is a practicing child psychiatrist, founding president of Zero to Three, and a supervising child psychoanalyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. A recipient of the American Psychiatric Association's highest award for child psychiatry research, Dr. Greenspan is the author or editor of over 100 scholarly articles and chapters, as well as 35 influential books.

Diane Lewis, CCC/SLP is the director/owner of Communication Enrichment Services, a private practice specializing in serving children with developmental delays including autism spectrum disorders, language learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, oral-motor dysfunction and other syndromes. Ms. Lewis has taught at the George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University and provided training on Oral-Motor Dysfunction, Augmentative Communication and the Severely-profoundly Multiply Handicapped.
